This isn’t so much a sandwich recipe as a technique, invented by the character Monica Geller in the comedy series “Friends,” and beloved of her brother, Ross. It consists of a layer of bread in the center of a sandwich, which has been dipped in gravy, therefore keeping the sandwich lovely and moist. There is an episode in which someone steals Ross’s Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, complete with moistmaker, from his shared workplace refrigerator. He is suitably unimpressed.
Makes 1
INGREDIENTS
3 slices whole-wheat (brown) bread
Mayonnaise
Whole lettuce leaves (something soft like an English or butterhead lettuce would be good here)
Leftover roast turkey slices
Leftover cold gravy
Leftover stuffing
Cranberry sauce
Spread 1 slice of the bread with mayonnaise. Add a layer of lettuce, then a layer of roast turkey. Dip a second slice of bread in gravy and lay it on top. Follow with a layer of stuffing. Spread the final slice of bread with cranberry sauce and lay it on top to complete your sandwich. Serve at once.
